In its announcement, the FTC quotes Chair Lina M. Khan as saying, “The FTC’s final rule to ban noncompetes will ensure Americans have the freedom to pursue a new job, start a new business, or bring a new idea to market.” While this may initially sound like good news for franchisees, the FTC’s “ban” on noncompetes isn’t as broad as it seems—as national franchise attorney Jeffrey M.
